Understanding Technical Signals

Moving Average Crossovers: When a short-term moving average (e.g. 10-day) crosses above a long-term moving average (e.g. 50-day), it is called a "golden cross" and is typically interpreted as a bullish signal. The opposite, a "death cross," suggests bearish momentum.

SMA vs EMA: Simple Moving Average (SMA) weights all prices equally. Exponential Moving Average (EMA) weights recent prices more heavily, making it faster to react to price changes. Traders often use both together for confirmation.

Support & Resistance: Support levels are prices where buying interest is strong enough to prevent further decline. Resistance levels are where selling pressure prevents further gains. Pivot points calculated from the prior day's high, low, and close provide mathematically derived S/R levels used by floor traders worldwide.

Classic vs Fibonacci vs Woodie: Classic pivot points use the standard (H+L+C)/3 formula. Fibonacci pivots apply 0.382 and 0.618 retracement levels to the range. Woodie pivots weight the close price more heavily with (H+L+2C)/4, better suited for trending markets.
